Check your digital safety before travelling.

Question 1 of 90%

Does your phone have a screen lock (PIN, passcode, fingerprint or face)?

Common questions

What does the Travel Check cover?

Digital Life Check’s Travel Check asks about travel habits, Wi-Fi, backups and devices: what you do on public Wi-Fi, whether your phone is backed up and Find My is on before a trip, how you charge your phone away from home, and whether your phone has a screen lock.

Is hotel and public Wi-Fi safe to use when travelling?

Hotel and public Wi-Fi is fine for most everyday things, because most websites and apps encrypt your connection themselves. Confirm the network name with staff, don’t type passwords or card details into a Wi-Fi sign-in page, and switch to your phone’s mobile data for anything sensitive if you are unsure. Digital Life Check’s Travel Check asks what you do on public Wi-Fi.

Do I need a VPN when I travel?

Not necessarily. A VPN is useful if you will rely on hotel, airport or café Wi-Fi, but it won’t protect you from scams, malware or weak passwords. Some countries restrict or ban VPNs, so check the UK government’s travel advice for your destination before you go. Digital Life Check’s travel guides cover when a VPN helps and what to look for.

Are my Travel Check answers sent anywhere?

No. The Travel Check runs in your browser, and your individual answers are not sent, saved or put in the web address. Digital Life Check records only that a check was started and completed, with the final score and its band.
