Common questions
What does the Family Check cover?
Digital Life Check’s Family Check asks about family safety, scams and devices: whether your family has agreed what to do about unexpected requests for money, whether parental controls are set up where children use your devices, how you would respond to a message claiming to be from your bank, and whether your phone has a screen lock.
How can a family protect itself from scam calls and messages?
Agree one simple rule: if a call or message asks for money or details, hang up and call back on a number you already know. For a bank, that number can be 159. Some families also agree a code word. Digital Life Check’s Family Check asks whether you have talked this through, and its guide to protecting parents from scams has the steps.
Does the Family Check apply if I don’t have children?
Yes. Digital Life Check’s Family Check has one question about parental controls, which suggests the controls built into the device: Screen Time on iPhone and Family Link on Android. If no children use your devices, choose that answer and the question is left out of your score rather than counted for or against you.
Are my Family Check answers sent anywhere?
No. The Family Check runs in your browser, and your individual answers are not sent, saved or put in the web address. Digital Life Check records only that a check was started and completed, with the final score and its band.
